History of Horse Art

April 7, 2015 by portfolio_TAWadmin

The history of horse art tells quite a bit about our relationship to the horse through time. They’ve helped us tame, till and cross the countryside. They have been our companions and a force to reckon with.

Artists have chased this recording of the horse’s importance throughout history. From cave art, to battle scenes and statements of wealth and prominence, the depiction of the horse requires a keen observation or in the very least an apreciation of the beauty of their form.

Their grace and power have captured my fascination since I was just a young girl and we bordered some horses for friends of the family when their barn burned down. My sisters and I drew likeness of them from magazines, and our HorseOilSketchpaper dolls always had the companionship of a horse.

This is an oil sketch for a possible children’s book illustration.
